A NEW TECHNOLOGY COMES TO LIGHT

Novalux was founded in 1998 to commercially introduce the first new semiconductor laser technology platform in over 20 years. Called Necsel™, this innovative platform is an elegant, power scalable, highly efficient, compact laser source that marries reliable performance with a high level of manufacturability.

Necsel technology was originally intended for the display market, where it far outperforms the UHP lamps ubiquitous in microdisplay illumination. However, a booming telecom market shifted efforts to producing a 980-nm pump source. These early telecom years provided Novalux with a valuable legacy: a state-of-the art, gallium arsenide semiconductor fabrication facility in the heart of Silicon Valley, and stringent Telcordia qualification. A second device aimed at bioinstrumentation then sparked product innovation in the visible spectral region. As a result, Novalux technology centers on reliable, high-power, visible output that is once again ideal for the display market.

ENABLING THE LIGHTING REVOLUTION

Today, Novalux is a pioneer in laser technology for display and architectural applications. Necsel sources enable devices such as laser TV, laser pocket projectors and laser cinema projectors. In fact, Novalux is on the path to large-scale Necsel manufacturing to enable first-generation laser TV launches in late 2007 and early 2008. Necsel lasers also provide a safe, cost-effective, long lifetime method for illuminating light fibers, making them an ideal replacement for neon sign tube lighting.
